In UN speech, Duterte asks DOJ, PNP to review drug war

By Prince Golez

President Rodrigo Duterte has instructed the Department of Justice and the Philippine National Police to review the conduct of his administration’s campaign against illegal drugs.

“I have instructed the Department of Justice and the Philippine National Police to review the conduct of our campaign against illegal drugs,” Duterte said in his pre-recorded speech for the 76th United Nations General Assembly Wednesday.

The President also assured that those who have “acted beyond bounds” in anti-drug operations will be held accountable.

“Those found to have acted beyond bounds during operations shall be made accountable before our laws,” according to him.

“My government has a mandate and an obligation to my people. We will deal with all criminals – including terrorists – with the full force of our laws,” he added.

Duterte issued the remark a week after the International Criminal Court (ICC) greenlighted the conduct of investigation into the Philippines’ bloody war on drugs.

Earlier, Malacañang said the government will not cooperate with the ICC probe as the UN-backed tribunal does not have jurisdiction in the country.
