A former government adviser is storming heaven with prayers for the national government to get its act together in curbing the alarming coronavirus spread in the country.
To effectively contain the virus spread, health reform advocate Dr. Tony Leachon has proposed an extension of the stricter lockdown, the conduct of free mass testing, and accelerated vaccination. The Manila physician made the proposals after expressing concern over the government’s apparent poor pandemic response.
“It’s time to rethink strategy given the unsuccessful results of the rolled out plan in the last few months. Pray harder for enlightened. national leadership,” he tweeted.
“I would suggest extend the MECQ for two more weeks with intensified mitigation measures. Let’s not experiment now,” he said.
Leachon is opposed to the relaxing of the movement controls amid the COVID surge happening in Metro Manila and other parts of the country. The country’s active cases of infections have soared to 158,637 as of Sept. 7, 2021 after authorities reported 18,012 new cases.
Leachon is worried about the “increasing number of deaths , positivity rate ( tests lower today ), and high risk healthcare utilization rate.”
He said finding solutions to COVID spread was “very easy” as he proposed three immediate measures, from testing, tracing to swift vaccination drive.
The solutions, according to Leachon, are the following:
1. Free mass testings. Mobile vans. Every corner. Workplaces. Funding is key.
2. Every Filipino should be empowered to do contact tracings. 3. Super fast or blitzkrieg vaccination with the best vaccines available. Target 90 % herd immunity.
