Mayor Isko to DOH: Buy Remdesivir and Tocilizumab instead of face shield

Two wonder medical supplies could greatly help save lives from the dreaded coronavirus disease.

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno called on the government to buy more Remdesivir and Tocilizumab for the treatment of COVID-infected patients. The purchase of these life-saving drugs is more beneficial than the government’s ridiculous face shield policy, as far as the mayor is concerned.

“Panawagan ko są isang ahensya ng gobyerno, Remdesivir at Tocilizumab ang bilhin niyo, hindi face shield,” he said during a public engagement in Manila on Sept. 6, 2021.

Remdesivir, an antiviral medication that targets a range of viruses, could reportedly accelerate the recovery of hospitalized COVID-infected patients. Tocilizumab has been recommended by the World Health Organization as part of the COVID-19 management protocol.

The Manila mayor has opposed the government’s face shield policy for all people, saying it should only be required in hospitals. He said face shields were only adding to the people’s daily expenses.

Instead of buying face shields, Mayor Isko said the government should focus on the purchase of crucial medical supplies and equipment to beef up the capacity of hospitals in providing care for COVID patients.
