Not this time: Sara Duterte refuses to campaign for admin candidates in 2022 elections

Apart from deciding against a presidential run, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte Carpio is not inclined to campaign for the administration’s senatorial candidates in the 2022 elections.

Mayor Sara said she would not share her “light” with the administration bets this time, after previously campaigning hard for certain candidates in the 2019 polls. The Davao City mayor leads the influential Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP), a regional political party formed in 2018.

“No. I will not share my light this time,” Mayor Sara commented on Sept. 9, 2021.

The Davao City chief executive issued the comment when asked by ABS-CBN reporter RG Cruz how she intends to help PDP-Laban party in the next elections.

When asked about the senatorial lineup of PDP-Laban, Mayor Sara said: “No comment.”

President Duterte, chairman of the ruling party, earlier accepted the nomination to run for vice president during a party assembly. As result, Mayor Sara abandoned plans to run for president since she and her father agreed that only one Duterte may run for national office next year. The decision was reached despite leading recent presidential surveys.

The PDP-Laban party earlier unveiled eight senatorial candidates for next year’s elections. Among the nominees are Leyte Rep. Lucy Torres Gomez, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III, and Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade.
