Power does not last forever.
Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla has reminded President Duterte to show leadership in addressing the pandemic instead of dwelling on cheap antics and insults in the middle of the health emergency.
As the COVID-19 outbreak continue to affect lives and livelihood, Remulla said the people are “desperate for leadership” adding that government officials are paid by taxpayers’ money to serve.
The country’ total cases of coronavirus have soared past 2 million after 14,216 new cases September 1, 2021. More than 33,000 Filipinos have died from the illness since the pandemic started last year.
“Tandaan po natin na kaya tayo naka-posisyon ngayon ay para itaguyod ang karapatan ng mga mamamayan na siyang nagluklok sa atin bilang mga kinauukulan. Hindi po tayo hinalal ng tao para malunod sa ilusyon ng kapangyarihan. Walang forever, ‘ika nga,” he said in a Facebook post.
“Wag po nating abusuhin at ubusin ang pasensya ng tao sa kacheapan at mga argumentong walang magandang patutunguhan,” he said.
Remulla also said the people have become “demoralized” and want a “solution” to the raging pandemic.
“The people are disheartened and in need of a VISION that includes a plan for RECOVERY and ACTION,” he said. “There is no time to waste.”
Instead of dwelling on efforts to fight the pandemic, President Duterte has recently been lashing out politikos deemed critical of his administration and those rumored to run for office in next year’s elections.
Duterte recently threw a major shade at Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, saying the people should not elect a politiko who was trained to be like a “call boy.” He mocked the competence of the mayor after seeing photos of the mayor in briefs. Mayor Isko previously worked as an actor before joining politics.
Just a few days ago, Duterte unleashed insults against senators probing the alleged mishandling of COVID-19 funds by the Department of Health, saying they were just showing off ahead of the 2022 elections.
Duterte particularly called out Senator Richard Gordon for being fat, telling him to lose weight. He also criticized Senator Ping Lacson’s hairstyle during his recent televised speech.
For Remulla, the President’s latest rants were a waste of people’s time and money.
Government officials get paid to serve, uphold the rights of peoples, and not drown in power, he said.
“Kailan pa nagbigay linaw ang panglalait at pang-iinsulto para lamang makaiwas sa mga isyung kailangan ng kasagutan? Una may tinawag na parang call boy daw ang imahe. Kasunod nito ang pagpuna sa isang mambabatas na kailangan daw magpapayat. At may patutsadahang pang ‘hairdo’ vs. ‘matandang paurong,'” he said.
“Parang ang daming oras sa mga walang kwentang bagay. Wag po sana nating kalimutan na pera ng bayan ang pinangsusweldo sa ating mga Serbisyo Publiko,” he said.
The people are desperate for LEADERSHIP. The people are demoralized and in need of a SOLUTION. The people are disheartened and in need of a VISION that includes a plan for RECOVERY and ACTION.
