Vice President Leni Robredo is no kitchen novice.
Robredo loves to cook meals for her kids and occasionally teach others how to cook. This time, the veep squeezed time out of her busy schedule to teach a young celebrity how to cook a famous Bicolano dish.
Saab Magalona, a musician and blogger, is floored when Robredo agreed to show the ropes on how to whip up a quick and tasty “Ginataang Santol” on her YouTube page. The veep sent her an online cooking tutorial coupled with the ingredients for Bicol’s speciality dish.
Saab, at the start of her YouTube video, admits she has been trying to go out of her comfort zone and cook dishes she has not made before.
She then introduces “one of her best friends” who sent a tutorial on how to make her specialty. Robredo appears in the video, greeting Saab from the small family kitchen.
“Welcome sa aming munting kusina. Pasensya na napakaliit ng kusina namin kasi nakatira kami sa condo. Pero kahit maliit, naging very functional siya specially noong quarantine. Nagkaroon lang talaga ako ng time na magluto ulit at palit-palitan kami ng bata sa pagluto ng dinner,” Robredo said.
Robredo proceeds to teach Saab on how to cook Ginataang Santol, which she says is an easy dish to prepare.
Saab follows the veep’s tutorial at her own kitchen and cooks the local dish. Afterwards, she tastes the final dish and loves it.
“I can’t even pretend that I’m not making it a big deal. It’s such a big deal to me that she took the time to do this. I’m such a fangirl,” Saab said about VP Leni. “I wanna to make her proud. I just find her so inspiring so I thought it would be fun try to make something that she recommended,” she said.
The video wraps up with Saab thanking VP Leni for taking time to teach her to cook a Bicolano dish. She admits she considers Robredo her “life peg.”
