Binay blasts Comelec’s special treatment to Duterte’s Senate bets: If you can’t be fair and impartial, what will 2022 polls be like?

Senator Nancy Binay is worried that the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) is showing its alleged partiality towards the candidates of President Duterte in the 2022 elections.

Binay cried foul over the “special preference” given to the administration bets when they filed their certificate of candidacies at the Comelec last Friday, October 8, 2021. She said other aspirants followed Comelec’s rules on COC filing but the poll body showed its alleged bias for the PDP-Laban bets backed by the President.

“@COMELEC Do you really have to give special preference to the PDP-Cusi Wing?” Binay tweeted.

“Napaka-unfair naman. We followed your rules sa Sofitel Tent, then you accomodated the candidates of PDP and broke your own rules?” she said.

Binay expressed concern about the credibility of the elections.

“If you can’t be fair & impartial, then what will #Halalan2022 be like?” she asked.

Last Friday, President Duterte and his entourage dropped by at the Comelec field office located at Sofitel tent to endorse his preferred senatorial contenders. Duterte raised the hand of each Senate aspirant after filing their COCs.

The Comelec issued certain health protocols, including limiting the companion of an aspirant to three and imposing physical distancing, to ensure safety against COVID-19 during COC filing.
