Busy si Cusi! Bayan Muna hits 7th straight oil price hike

By Billy Begas

Bayan Muna chairperson Neri Colmenares on Sunday said that Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi seems “so busy scrambling for a standard-bearer or a bench warmer” for the 2022 elections “that he forgot his job of keeping prices of oil and electricity down.”

Colmenares made the reaction following reports that the price of gasoline, diesel and kerosene will increase by P1.40 to P1.50 per liter this week. The increase will bring the price of diesel being used by public utility vehicles (PUV) to almost P50/liter.

“As many Filipinos lose jobs due to the pandemic, and with others just about to try and recover from the recession, the Department of Energy should be at the forefront in ensuring that utility rates are at an affordable rate,” said Colmenares, a senatorial candidate of the Makabayan bloc.

The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) last week announced that it will implement a price increase this month.

“Iyong sinasabi nila mas masaya ang magiging pasko this year, hindi yata magkakatotoo dahil mababaon naman sa bayarin ang mga Pilipino,” Colmenares added.

Last Friday, Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) as the presidential candidate of PDP-Laban. Cusi is the president of PDP-Laban.
