DILG, mayors ready for possible NCR alert downgrade: Malaya

By Prince Golez

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) expressed readiness should the Covid-19 alert level in the National Capital Region (NCR) be downgraded to Alert Level 2 next month.

“Yes, handang-handa po ang DILG,” Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya said during a Laging Handa public briefing Wednesday.

Metro Manila mayors, he added, are also prepared in case quarantine rules in the capital region will be eased slightly.

“Handang-handa din po ang ating mga mayors sa NCR kung pinag-uusapan itong alert level system. Alam na po ng mga mayors yung additional capacity na ibibigay natin sa mga establishments na regulated under the alert level system,” according to him.

Malaya welcomed the steady decline in the number of Covid-19 cases for the past two weeks, as well as the ongoing vaccination efforts.

“Napakaganda naman po ng datos. We have had continuous decrease sa number cases for the past two weeks, and tuloy-tuloy naman po ang ating vaccination program,” he added.

The DILG official said the ramped-up vaccination program, the decrease of cases and the additional deployment of personnel by the Philippine National Police and the local government units will ensure the successful implementation of Alert Level 2 restrictions in Metro Manila.
