Duterte hits ABS-CBN anew: ‘They don’t pay taxes yet they are the ones who are aggressive’

By Prince Golez

President Rodrigo Duterte once again accused media giant ABS-CBN Corp. of unpaid taxes.

In a speech held in Iligan City Saturday, Duterte called ABS-CBN “abusive” and “aggressive.”

“… ABS-CBN is so abusive. They don’t pay taxes yet they are the ones who are aggressive. And they continue really to utilize and the political parties even until today. It’s still the same,” he said.

Prior to this, the President said that funding of some political parties depend on wealthy businessmen.

“Majority of those who joined Nacionalista, my father was Nacionalista, Liberal, they were funded by the oligarchs. The PDP had none,” according to him.

Duterte has been critical of the country’s largest media company, which he said failed to air some of his campaign advertisements during the 2016 national elections.

He also repeatedly claimed that the network has not been paying proper taxes for the past years.

Last year, Congress denied the application of ABS-CBN for a fresh 25-year franchise.
