Duterte thanks gov’t forces anew for ending Marawi siege

By Prince Golez

President Rodrigo Duterte again thanked the soldiers and policemen for risking their lives to liberate Marawi from the terrorist Maute group.

In May 2017, government forces clashed with militants linked to the Islamic State for more than four months, leaving nearly 1,000 people killed in the conflict.

“Let me again give recognition to our soldiers and police personnel, and local constituency for their bravery, sacrifice, and determination in defending and liberating Marawi City after five months of battle,” Duterte said during the commemoration activity of the fourth anniversary of the Marawi siege held at the Rizal Park.

The Chief Executive also hoped that the country won’t see a repeat of the Marawi City siege.

“How sad it is. I pray to God that it will never happen ever, ever again,” he added.
