Former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is throwing her full support to her longtime ally the Pinedas in the local elections in Pampanga.
Arroyo has backed the son and mother tandem of Pampanga – Governor Dennis Pineda and Vice Governor Lilia Pineda — who are seeking reelection for their second term next year.
The declaration of support was made after former Candaba Mayor Jerry Pelayo, a known Arroyo ally, endorsed the rival candidate. Former Candaba Mayor Danilo Baylon has joined the gubernatorial race in Pampanga.
“The decision of former Mayor Jerry Pelayo to support an opposition gubernatorial candidate in Pampanga is his own personal opinion,” Arroyo said in a statement posted on Facebook.
“My family supports Governor Dennis Pineda and Vice-Governor Lilia Pineda all the way,” she said.
Arroyo is eyeing a House comeback in 2022 elections. The former House Speaker has filed her candidacy for Pampanga 2nd District’s representative, taking the place of her son Rep. Mikey Arroyo.
