Just like Erap, Pacquiao vows to be champion of the poor: ‘Mananatili ako na para sa mahirap’

Here’s the new champion of the poor.

It was former President Joseph Estrada who used the campaign slogan “Erap para sa mahirap” that won him the 1998 presidential polls. Years later, Manny Pacquiao is apparently riding on the same pro-poor rhetoric.

Pacquiao, who is seeking the presidency in the 2022 elections, vowed to fight for the rights and welfare of the country’s poor. The boxing icon has a rags-to-riches story, growing up poor until he became one of the world’s greatest boxers of all time.

Pacquiao retired from boxing and announced his bid for the presidency in next year’s elections. The presidential aspirant, sympathizing with the suffering of Filipinos especially the poor, has promised to fight poverty and corruption.
