No way.
Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte Carpio is not keen on running for president under the ruling PDP-Laban party.
Liloan Cebu Mayor Christina Garcia Frasco, spokeswoman of Mayor Sara, said Duterte has no plan on joining her father’s political party and that she has already decided to seek another term as local chief executive of Davao City.
“Mayor Sara has no intention of becoming a member of PDP or of being its standard-bearer now or in the near future,” Frasco said in a statement.
Mayor Sara has already chosen to run for reelection in the 2022 polls despite the clamor from supporters to run for president. She has been topping surveys for preferred presidential candidates in next year’s elections. But instead of seeking the presidency, her certificate of candidacy for third consecutive term as Davao City mayor was filed over the weekend.
“Mayor Sara Duterte has already filed her certificate of candidacy for mayor. Not being a member of PDP-Laban, she is not privy to the party’s sudden change of plans,” Frasco said.
The camp of Mayor Sara issued the statement after Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi said the PDP-Laban party nominating the Davao City mayor as the presidential candidate was a “possibility.”
The administration party earlier endorsed Senator Bong Go as standard bearer but the President’s former aide rejected the nomination. Instead, he filed his COC for Vice President, taking the place of President Duterte who opted to drop out of the race and retire from politics.
