Mind manipulation: Rappler hides results of Facebook poll on presidential bets as Bongbong leads

Is Rappler trying to influence netizens’ perception of the support for presidential aspirants in the 2022 elections?

The chief of staff of vice presidential aspirant and Buhay party-list Rep. Lito Atienza has called out Rappler for hiding the results of its very own Facebook emoji poll on presidential contenders.

Last week, Rappler asked Facebook users to respond with a specific emoji to indicate their preferred presidential bet. Its poll had the question: “Who is your presidential bet for the 2022 elections?”

An amused emoji is a vote for Senator Panfilo Lacson, a thumbs up sign for Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, a heart emoji for Vice President Leni Robredo, a shocked emoji for former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., and a caring emoji for Senator Manny Pacquiao.

Curiously, only the netizens who responded with a shocked emoji for Marcos were listed in the post. There was no data available for the other emojis, except for the total number of netizens who clicked the particular emoji.

“Ano ‘to? Rappler x Smartmatic ? Haha bakit no data yung iba? Inaayos pa results?” asked Eric Cham, Atienza’s chief of staff.

Cham’s screenshot showed the shocked emoji garnering the highest number of votes at 187,000, followed by the heart emoji for Robredo with 179,000. The thumbs up emoji was clicked on 10,000 times, the amused emoji, 2,300 times, and the caring emoji, 1,500 times.
