Public told: Monitor gov’t media arm for ‘life-saving’ Maring updates

By Prince Golez

The Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) on Tuesday urged Filipinos to subscribe to its information and communication programs and other platforms for “more life-saving, timely and accurate information” on Tropical Storm Maring.

Secretary Martin Andanar said the PCOO and its attached agencies, through its integrated Laging Handa Program, continue to provide needed information and updates regarding the cyclone and its effects using all the government’s media platforms.

“We ask the public, in particular those in the affected regions, to follow all the directives of the national and local government units and to monitor all warnings and advisories to ensure their safety and welfare from the storm,” Andanar said in a press statement.

The secretary also reminded everyone, especially those in evacuation centers, to observe all health protocols to minimize infection from Covid-19.

Meanwhile, Andanar assured that concerned government agencies have prepared for Maring.

“The government remains on top of the situation having prepared early on for Tropical Storm Maring by making prior risk assessments and having pre-positioned various components for relief operations and disaster responses,” according to him.

“These were done particularly in Northern Luzon through our regional disaster risk reduction and management councils and other regional offices of line departments,” he added.

The PCOO chief said uniformed personnel from the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine National Police, and the Bureau of Fire Protection have also been mobilized to provide additional assistance.
