Sa awa ng Diyos! Duterte hopes for better Xmas this year

By Prince Golez

Citing the decline in new Covid-19 cases in the Philippines, President Rodrigo Duterte said the country can hope for a “better Christmas.”

On Monday, Duterte attributed the declining trend in fresh infections to the increase in vaccinations and the continued compliance with health protocols.

“In Metro Manila, almost 77 percent are fully vaccinated. The challenge is to further speed up vaccination especially in the provinces to achieve our target of at least 50 percent of the country’s target population by end of the year,” the President said during his taped public address.

He expressed confidence most major cities will hit this target before Christmas.

“Bumababa ang [transmission] sa awa ng Diyos. According to latest data, our weekly average of new COVID cases has dropped to less than 10,000 and the current reproduction rate of the virus is down to .77 percent. Magandang balita ito,” said Duterte.

“If we continue to ramp up the vaccination of our people and our consistent practice of mask, wag pa rin tanggalin, hugas at iwas, and with the gradual resumption of our economic activities, then we can hope for a better Christmas,” he concluded.
