Sara Duterte chooses reelection over presidential run, thanks anew Pinoys for trust and support

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte Carpio will seek reelection instead of running for president in the 2022 elections.

Without any fanfare, Mayor Sara filed her certificate of candidacy for Davao City mayor at the local poll office on Saturday.

The filing of COC came shortly after President Duterte announced his withdrawal from the vice presidential race and planned retirement from politics. Duterte’s decision sparked rumors he was paving the way for his daughter to seek the presidency in next year’s elections.

Mayor Sara, however, did exactly what she said and decided to seek a third and final term as mayor of her hometown.

In a Facebook post, she shared photos of her COC filing and thanked the people who continue to trust and support her amid clamor for her presidential run.

“I have been honored with the gift of trust and respect of many of our fellow Filipinos. Thank you to everyone who have expressed their support. Many of you do not know me and yet you carry me over your shoulders. Like the other millions of Filipinos,” she said.

Mayor Sara said she shares the Filipinos’ aspiration of a better life and called for unity towards a peaceful and credible elections next year.

“I share with you the same goal of living a peaceful and prosperous life in our country, today and in the many years to come. I call on everyone to work together for an honest, orderly, and credible elections in May 2022.Daghang Salamat. Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!” she said.

The mayor earlier announced she would not vie for the presidency after her father decided to run for vice president. The two reportedly agreed that only one Duterte will run for national office in next year’s elections.

With the President choosing to retire and his daughter opting for reelection, it now appears that not a single Duterte will seek a national post in the upcoming polls.

ABS-CBN reporter RG Cruz earlier tweeted that Mayor Sara had filed her COC as Davao City mayor.
