Sorry Manny, si Leni ang pinili: CDO Mayor Moreno is kakampink

Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno has come out in full support to Vice President Leni Robredo’s presidential bid next year, even though he comes from the same political party presidential aspirant Manny Pacquiao has recently sworn into.

In an exclusive interview on Politiko Live’s Balitang Sapol, Moreno said he sees Robredo as a more fitting candidate to lead the country in the next six years.

“Okay rin si Senator Manny and I admire him. Mabait sya and sincere pero palagay ko ang presidency kasi, with all due respect, sana naman kung pwedeng mapaubaya yung presidency to somebody else, not that I don’t think he can do it…I think the country will be in better hands under Vice President Leni Robredo.”

Moreno is also aware of the consequences of this move—he might be expelled from the party or he might get the ire of the administration for not supporting a Mindanaoan candidate—in case Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte decides to run.

“Wala akong magagawa. I’m just following my heart and my belief. I’ve gone through many crossroads in the past especially in public service, but there are points in a person’s life that you have to decide on the basis of your conscience and your sense of duty,’”he explained.

“Sana naman maintindihan din nila na karapatan ko ito. This is not a disrespect to anyone but this is an exercise of my right and freedom…we are very supportive of the programs of the administration,” he added.

Moreno is seeking for a comeback in the provincial government of Misamis Oriental in the 2022 polls, and is also employing the same strategy and message as VP Leni—unifying leadership. Moreno did not pull any local candidate for Mayor in his team.
