Too many players in Team Moreno: Cesar Chavez leaves Isko amid infighting among supporters

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno’s chief of staff, Cesar Chavez, has resigned from his post amid the infighting between his campaign team and long time supporters.

Politiko learned that Chavez, a former Transportation Undersecretary, returned to being a full-time host on dZRH radio station starting September 30.

Sources told Politiko that differences with Moreno’s campaign team, led by Lito Banayo, was one of the factors for Chavez’s resignation.

Tension is reportedly brewing in the mayor’s camp as Banayo and his allies ease out supporters who have worked with Moreno for years.

Chavez’s resignation is just the latest in the series of departures of key city government officials who worked with Moreno since he won in the 2019 elections.

In August, political strategist Malou Tiquia resigned as president of Universidad de Manila while abogado George Garcia stepped down as dean of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila’s College of Law.

Chavez cryptically tweeted a photo of Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto on October 10, hinting his estrangement with Moreno.

Both Sotto and Moreno are members of Aksyon Demokratiko party, though the Manila mayor only joined the party in August in preparation for his presidential bid.

“Magaling. Matino. Matapat. Maraming katulad mo sana mayor @VicoSotto ang mahalal sa #Desisyon2022 . Mabuhay po kayo!” Chavez said.
