Ahead of ‘nastiest & most toxic’ elections, Remulla asks Robredo ‘not to give in to the hate’

Political quarrels are awful. It’s always better to agree to disagree.

Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla called for respect, not hate, when Vice President Leni Robredo visited the province to meet her supporters ahead of the 2022 elections. Remulla welcomed the presidential aspirant to Cavite despite their political differences.

“Before we parted, I asked only one thing from VP Leni: ‘No matter what happens please do not give in to the hate,'” Remulla wrote on Facebook.

“Let’s not give in to ill feelings, either. Let’s just all learn to agree to disagree,” he said.

Keeping it civil: Remulla welcomes Robredo to Cavite, but won’t endorse her for president

Remulla also sent best wishes to Robredo as she vies for the presidency. “I wish her safe travels. I wish her peace and happiness. I wish her a great campaign and future ahead,” he said.

Remulla was every bit a gentleman when he treated Robredo with dignity and professional during her visit to Cavite last Thursday. Robredo belongs to Liberal party while Remulla is a member of the National Unity Party.

The governor claimed that the 2022 elections will “probably be the nastiest and most toxic election” in local history but he refused to go to the dark side.

“The fireworks have already begun. Yet I received the Vice President with the dignity and professionalism she deserves not just as the incumbent second highest Official of the Republic but also out of respect to her as a woman, leader and mother,” he said.

“Although we disagree on certain issues, we both agree that the people deserve a leader the Filipinos can be proud of,” he said.

He said the country’s next president must speak “not only about the country’s past but also one with a vision towards a better tomorrow.” The next president must also represent “the peoples’ hopes and dreams and not one who incites fear amongst the people,” he said.
