President Rodrigo Duterte has advised local chief executives to force corrupt officials to eat money.
Duterte issued the remark when asked during his recent meeting with local leaders of Oriental Mindoro if corruption can be eliminated in government.
“Kaya kung mayor kayo, sundin ninyo. Ipakain ninyo ‘yung pera na peke, ipakain mo ‘yung pera na hiningi, extortion. Iyan. ‘Pag naglaglag ng bala doon sa ano, eh ‘di ipakain mo rin, ipalunok mo,” the Chief Executive said.
In his speech, Duterte reiterated that he fired 43 Immigration personnel allegedly involved in the “pastillas” scheme, where officials received money hidden in rolled bond paper to allow Chinese nationals to enter the Philippines as tourists and work for offshore gaming companies.
The President has repeatedly vowed to dedicate his remaining months in office to fighting corruption.
