Keeping it civil: Remulla welcomes Robredo to Cavite, but won’t endorse her for president

Vice President Leni Robredo faced no problem during a recent visit to Cavite even though the incumbent governor isn’t a political ally.

Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla chose to set aside political differences with Robredo and keep things civil when the country’s second-highest official visited the vote-rich province.

Remulla is seeking reelection as Cavite governor under the National Unity Party (NUP). The political group is backing the presidential tandem of Senators Panfilo Lacson and Tito Sotto in next year’s elections.

In a Facebook post, Remulla explained he treated Robredo with respect despite their disagreement on some issues.

“2022 will probably be the nastiest and most toxic election in Philippine History. The fireworks have already begun. Yet I received the Vice President with the dignity and professionalism she deserves not just as the incumbent second highest Official of the Republic but also out of respect to her as a woman, leader and mother,” Remulla said on Facebook.

“Although we disagree on certain issues, we both agree that the people deserve a leader the Filipinos can be proud of,” he said.

The veep, clad in a pink blouse, was in Kawit, Cavite to launch the food trucks that will give away free lugaw or porridge to the public.
