Senator Panfilo Lacson could give frontrunners in the 2022 presidential race a run for their money—and votes—with his steady rise in voter preference surveys, two political analysts said.
Edmund Tayao and Malou Tiquia named Lacson as one of the top three presidential aspirants most likely to win in a forum hosted by the Philippine Press Institute on November 17.
“Yung top 3 bukod kay Senator Bongbong Marcos, Mayor Isko, tinitingnan ko si Senator Ping na surprise na aakyat ‘yan,” Tayao said.
“Marcos, Go, Lacson, in that order,” Tiquia added, referring to Senator Bong Go, who filed his candidacy for president last week.
A survey conducted by the Social Weather Stations (SWS) from October 20 to 23 showed Lacson in fifth place with a five percent voter preference rating. He was tied with Senator Ronald Dela Rosa, who has since backed out of the presidential race.
Tiquia’s exclusion of Vice President Leni Robredo as a leading presidential contender didn’t sit well with the latter’s supporters, with journalist Raissa Robles even questioning her credentials.
“If a so-called analyst, when asked who are the top 3 presidential candidates who might win, avoids the Leni name, then whoever hires that analyst should be aware of this blind spot. The last thing you want an analyst to do is to avoid the rocks beneath the stormy waves,” she said.
Tiquia, however, shrugged off the criticism, saying she has reasons to believe Robredo may not win in 2022.
“The journo who twitted abt not naming Robredo in this afternoon forum, pls lang. I hv worked for her in 2016 pro bono. I have my reasons why I don’t believe she can make it. Blind spot? Baka ikaw! Avoid the rocks beneath the stormy waves? Seriously you can see the rocks?!” she tweeted.
