Makabayan bloc condemns killing of 2 farmers in Quezon

Members of the Makabayan bloc have jointly filed a resolution condemning the killing of two coconut farmers in Sampaloc, Quezon province.

The lawmakers, in House Resolution 2372, also urged the House Committee on Human Rights to investigate the killing of Arnold Buri and Jorge Coronacion, an elderly farmer with a sight problem.

Tanggol Magsasaka-Timog Katagalugan, an organization advocating for the rights of farmers, said Buri and Coronacion were killed on November 17 by members of the 85th Infantry Battalion while on their way home.

The military claimed that the two were members of the New People’s Army killed in an encounter.

Eufemia Cullamat said.

Karapatan-Southern Tagalog also said residents in the area did not hear exchange of gunfire.

Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas said there are now 344 peasant victims of extrajudicial killings under the Duterte regime.
