Morente: BI ready to welcome foreign visitors from ‘green’ countries

Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente assured that the Bureau of Immigration (BI) is prepared to welcome back foreign tourists once the country fully reopens its border.

In the meantime, Morente said the country remains closed to foreign tourists despite the easing of restrictions due to the drop in the number of cases of the COVID-19 disease.

“There are reports circulating that the country has already reopened its borders to international leisure travelers,” he said.

“While we are awaiting the official announcement from the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-MEID), we have already put in place the needed manpower and facilities in preparation for this,” Morente assured.

Once the government allows back foreign tourists, Morente believes “those coming from green list countries will be the first ones to be allowed entry.”

Morente noted that the BI has already “resumed the use of our e-gates for arriving Filipinos as it would greatly lessen the processing time for our kababayans who will be returning here for Christmas.”

The BI noted that 44 countries are under the green list, while,Faroe Islands and the Netherlands remain in the red list.

The IATF recently announced that full-vaccinated foreigners from green countries can enter the country starting December 1. These foreign visitors will be required to present official vaccination cards, negative PCR test results, among others.
