Boxing icon Senator Manny Pacquiao was not always living the high life. Before his rise to stardom, Pacquiao endured many struggles and only made it big after years of hard work. One of his early jobs was in construction back in 1994.
“Kasabay ng aking pangarap na maiahon ang aking pamilya, natuto akong magsumikap. Isang batang paslit mula sa Mindanao na sa murang edad ay nagbanat ng buto at nagtrabaho bilang isang construction worker,” Pacquiao wrote on Instagram.
“Dahil dito, alam ko na kung mabibigyan ang bawat isa ng pagkakataon handa silang magsumikap para iangat ang kanilang kalagayan,” he said.
Pacquiao, a presidential aspirant in 2022, returned to his construction roots when he visited his former workplace in Malabon last week. He reunited with the Correa family, that gave him food, work, and shelter while he starting in boxing, as well as other old friends and work colleagues at the construction firm.
Pacquiao, who eventually became one of the world’s best boxers and ventured into politics, vowed that job generation will be among his priorities if elected president next year.
“Kaya naman ang trabahong may sapat na sweldo ang prayoridad ko para sa bawat pamilyang Pilipino,” he said.
Pacquiao, a senator since 2016, said he would never forget his struggle and the people he met in his difficult journey to the top.”

Pacquiao retired from boxing last September to join the presidential race. The boxer-turned-politiko is running alongside Buhay party-list Rep. Lito Atienza in the presidential elections.
