Duterte not perfect but doing best in pandemic response – Isko Moreno

Friends again?

Far from his past criticisms on the government’s pandemic response, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno is now heaping praises on President Duterte for trying his best on the matter.

According to presidential aspirant, no government is perfect but the President deserved credit for the success of the pandemic response, particularly the recent three-day vaccination drive.

The mayor’s latest comment came after claiming he was hopeful of getting the President’s endorsement after his aide backed out from the 2022 presidential race. Mayor Isko is the standard bearer of Aksyon Demokratiko.

“Hindi man perpekto ang naging COVID-19 response ng bansa, hindi natin maisasantabi ang mga naging tagumpay ng bansa laban sa pandemya dahil sa pamumuno ni Pangulong Duterte,” the mayor said during visit to Bulacan on Friday, December 3, 2021.

He said the government’s vaccination drive is commendable to boost the Filipinos’ protection against the coronavirus. The three-day vaccination campaign was held from November 29, 2021 to December 1 as the government intensified measures against the new coronavirus variant Omicron.

“Hindi madali mamuno sa gitna ng isang pandemya. But our government did its best to respond to the challenges of our time. We must give credit where credit is due,” he said.

He also lauded Duterte for listening to the people and correcting the mistakes of his men.

“Walang perpekto na gobyerno. Pero gaya ng ginagawa ni Pangulong Duterte, kapag ang isang lider ay nakikinig sa mamamayan at tinatama ang mali ng kanyang mga tao, diyan natututo at umuunlad ang pamahalaan,” he said.

Duterte previously mocked a Metro Manila mayor over his past sexy photos, as he questioned the latter’s competence. He did not identify the person but many suspected he was alluding to Mayor Isko who worked as an actor before joining politics.
