Lacson meets with Cavite Gov. Remulla, talks about Reporma

Partido Reporma chairman and standard-bearer Panfilo “Ping” Lacson recently met with Cavite Governor Juanito Victor “Jonvic” Remulla to firm up support for the party’s advocacies and future “Online Kumustahan” legs in the province ahead of the 2022 national elections.

Lacson had lunch with Remulla, Cavite 6th District Rep. Jonjon Ferrer, 3rd District Rep. Alex Advincula, and Carmona Mayor Roy Loyola at the provincial capitol in General Trias City, where Partido Reporma held its ninth “Online Kumustahan” leg on Dec. 3 (Friday) at the General Trias Sports Park.

Born and raised in Imus, the longtime public servant has repeatedly thanked fellow Cavitenos for always placing him on top of previous elections, ever since his first run for a Senate seat in 2001 and even during his first bid for the presidency in 2004.

Remulla has not formally endorsed any presidential or vice-presidential aspirants for the May 9, 2022 polls. But the governor is a member of the National Unity Party, which is led by former Interior Secretary Ronaldo V. Puno and allied with Partido Reporma.

Cavite is the second most vote-rich province in the country, with more than 2.1 million voters as of 2019 based on data from the Commission on Elections.

In GenTri, the veteran senator was greeted by an enthusiastic crowd of Partido Reporma members and supporters in a socially-distanced gathering observing health protocols, as he told stories of how he grew up in Cavite and reminisced of the old days when the city had another name.

“Anyway, [alam niyo itong] General Trias City ay San Francisco de Malabon. ‘Yan, inabot ko pa ‘yan ‘nung bata kami, dito kami laging nagbabakasyon. Alam niyo, masipag ‘yung tatay ko. Walo kaming magkakapatid. Kada dalawang taon, nanganganak. E mahirap namang dalawa ‘yung inaalagaan. So, ang gagawin, iwinawalay kami—ang tawag ‘nung araw, winawalay,” Lacson said.

[General Trias City used to be San Francisco de Malabon. I still remember this city being called that as a child, as we always spent our vacations here. You know, my father was a hard worker. We were eight siblings in all – every two years, my mother would give birth. But it was hard to take care of two (children) at once. So, what my parents would do is what’s called “winawalay” (break us up).]

Lacson also thanked the Partido Reporma program’s hosts, Cavite Rep. Jonjon Ferrer and Gen. Trias City Mayor Ony Ferrer – the descendants of General Mariano Trias, the country’s first de facto Vice President after whom the city is named – and said they had the blood of heroes in their veins.

“Alam niyo, si Congressman Jonjon, lagi kong seatmate ito doon sa Commission on Appointments. Tama ang sinabi niya. Noong nagkaroon ng COVID-[19], tatlo kaming laging matatapang [na] nag-a-attend pagka merong commission hearing. Si Congressman Jonjon, kasi chairman ng Committee on National Defense, kasalanan ko po ‘yon dahil ako ‘yung nag-recommend sa kanya,” the multi-term senator said.

[Congressman Jonjon was a frequent seatmate of mine on the Commission on Appointments. What he said was correct: when COVID-19 broke, only three of us were brave enough to attend (in person) whenever there was a committee hearing. Congressman Jonjon was the chairman of the (House) Committee on National Defense, which was my fault because I recommended him for the post.
