As he celebrated his 43rd birthday on Friday, Senator Manny Pacquiao said he and his wife Jinkee agreed to cancel plans to hold his usual grand birthday celebration with thousands of people invited out of sympathy for the victims of Typhoon Odette.
But he added that he would push through with his tradition of giving food packs and cash to poor residents in Sarangani and General Santos City.
In an interview at the sidelines of his relief and cash-giving activity in Digos City, Pacquiao said: “Imbes na 5,000 katao na palagi nating binibigyan kapag birthday ko, gagawin nating 2,000 na lang para yung 3,000 maipadala agad natin sa mga nasalanta ng Odette.”
He made the remark before distributing relief packs packs and cash to some 3,000 Digos residents who filled the Davao del Sur Coliseum.
Pacquiao also led a prayer for the areas that were hit by typhoon Odette.
“Para sa aking mga kababayan na apektado ng bagyo, kapit lang po. Help is coming. Manalig lamang po sa ating Panginoon at hindi Niya kayo pababayaan,” Pacquiao said.
