Partido Reporma chairman and standard-bearer Panfilo “Ping” Lacson and his running mate Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto came away from their quick stop in Cebu on Friday with a clear show of support from Cebuanos, boosting their chances of victory in the 2022 national elections, a ranking party official said.
With the warm reception granted the Lacson-Sotto tandem by not just residents but also local leaders and at least 20 local government officials, Partido Reporma treasurer Arnel Ty said this will surely translate into votes come the May 9 polls next year.
“Talaga namang mukhang nakuha na ng Lacson-Sotto tandem ang Cebu dahil narinig mismo natin na nagsabi si Winston Fiel Garcia na susuportahan ang tambalan nila,” Ty, also a party-list congressman and a longtime election analyst of how national candidates lay out their plans and platforms for the public, said Saturday.
[It really looks like the Lacson-Sotto tandem got Cebu because we heard it from Winston Fiel Garcia himself that he will support their team.]
Garcia is the influential chairman of the Court of First Instance (CFI) Community Cooperative, which counts over 155,000 members, and is the brother of incumbent Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, who in turn heads the ‘One Cebu’ provincial party.
Being among the prominent clans of Central Visayas, the Garcias’ influence also extends to other provinces in the region, Ty added, as Lacson and Sotto headed to Dumaguete City for the next leg of their “Online Kumustahan” (OK) tour.
Apart from Garcia, the 20 mayors in Cebu showed their support for the veteran senators by physically attending the “OK” stop in Naga City, Cebu or sending representatives to the Lacson-Sotto tandem’s various activities in the province on Friday.
These actions included the inauguration of the Partido Reporma headquarters and the blessing of the HQ of the Nationalist People’s Coalition, headed by Sotto. Both offices are in Mandaue City.
Apart from the Cebuanos’ explicit support, Ty said the hundreds who joined the “Online Kumustahan” in Naga – despite being a socially-distanced event to respect current health and safety protocols against COVID-19 – and the thousands more who tuned in via delayed broadcast across social media channels indicated victory for Lacson and Sotto with only five months to go before the national elections.
“Walang caravan o malakihang parada na gumagawa pa ng abala, pero talagang tagumpay kahit sa Naga,” the Partido Reporma treasurer added.
[No caravan or huge parade that causes trouble happened, but you can clearly see it was a victory even in Naga.
