Ex-Tourism Secretary Mon Jimenez dies, 64

Former Tourism Secretary Ramon “Mon” Jimenez has died, the Department of Tourism (DOT) confirmed Monday (April 27). He was 64 years old.

In a statement, Tourism Secretary Berna Romulo-Puyat said Jimenez made “immeasurable contributions” to the tourism industry by pioneering the famous campaign, “It’s More Fun in the Philippines.”

She also credited Jimenez for crafting the DOT policies which helped shape the National Tourism Development Program (NTDP) for 2016-2022.

“Today, we mourn the loss of Mon Jimenez but we will be forever grateful to him for the growth of the tourism sector, and for promoting the Philippines as a place that is wonderful, joyous and fun,” Romulo-Puyat said.

Jimenez served as Tourism Secretary during the Aquino administration, from 2011 until 2016.
