It’s more fun working with Mon Jimenez: Noy remembers late ex-DOT chief

Former President Benigno Aquino III expressed sadness Tuesday (April 28) over the death of former Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez, who was part of his Cabinet for five years.

In a statement, Aquino recalled how he was initially skeptical of Jimenez’s tourism campaign, “It’s More Fun in the Philippines.” However, he changed his mind when the advertising veteran presented his concept.

“It fulfilled our need to promote the Philippines with a very limited budget yet would have a significant appeal to the target market that we were trying to reach. That meeting ended with all of us so energized as we were convinced that we had a winning campaign,” Aquino said.

The former President said Jimenez “achieved so much without ever complaining” about the lack of hotels and infrastructure for tourism. He said Jimenez’s efforts led to the country exceeding its goals for domestic and international tourist arrivals, as well as tourism receipts.

Aquino said he was “fortunate” to have Jimenez as part of the Cabinet.

“In all this, Mon was not only our Tourism chief, but he was also someone instrumental in crafting the messages of my Administration. He helped unify the majority of our people towards achieving the successes that we could be proud of as a nation,” he said.
