Palace to firms: Don’t compel employees outside ECQ areas to report for work

By Prince Golez

Industries allowed to operate on May 1 should not require their workers who live in areas placed under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) to report for work, Malacañang said Monday.

“‘Yung mga nag-eempleyo siguro po papasukin natin ‘yung mga nasa GCQ (General Community Quarantine) na para hindi mahirapan ng pagtawid-tawid,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in an interview on GMA News’ Unang Balita.

This, he added, would help avoid confusion in checkpoints.

“Mas mabuti po na kung pupuwede piliin ninyo na ‘yung mga empleyado na hindi na tatawid mula ECQ to GCQ,” according to Roque.

Thursday last week, the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases announced that areas outside National Capital Region, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, and all other “high-risk” areas in Luzon are placed under GCQ.

Businesses that can resume full operations under the GCQ are agriculture, fisheries, forestry, food manufacturing and its entire supply chain, food retail, healthcare, logistics, water, energy, Internet, telecommunications, and media.

Establishments allowed to operate at 50-100% capacity were manufacturing of electronics and exports, e-commerce and delivery for essential and non-essential items, repair and maintenance services, housing, and office services.

Those that could operate with 50% onsite work and 50% work-from-home employees include financial services, business process outsourcing, and other non-leisure wholesale and retail trade and other non-leisure services.
