UK vows to take better care of Filipino health workers

The United Kingdom has thanked Filipino health workers battling in the front lines against the coronavirus and promised to give them better care and protection.

The latest pledge to look after health workers’ safety was given by Foreign & Commonwealth Office Minister of State, Nigel Adams during a recent phone call to Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr.

Locsin said the UK official contacted him to relay his thanks for Filipino health workers as well as express condolences to families of those who died due to the illness.

The UK minister also thanked the Duterte government for helping charter a second flight for stranded British nationals in the Philippines.

“British Foreign Minister called. Took his call in my garden koz all calls, local or long distance, are pure shit in our crap country. I got this from him: Thank you to Filipino health workers in UK; sincerest condolence for loss of so many. England will take better care of them,” Locsin tweeted April 26.

Around Filipinos in the United Kingdom, including 20 healthcare workers, have reportedly died due to coronavirus disease, the Philippine embassy in London reported last week.

Of the 1.5 million National Health Service (NHS) workforce, 18,000 are Filipino. Appeals have been issued to the UK government to provide better protection for health care workers as more than a 100 lost their lives from the disease.
