Philippines partakes in WHO’s clinical trial for possible COVID treatments

By Prince Golez

The Philippines is taking part in a clinical study on four possible therapies in treating the coronavirus disease (Covid-19), Malacañang said.

This is in response to the World Health Organization’s (WHO) launch of a Solidarity trial aimed at testing possible therapies for Covid-19.

In a virtual presser Monday, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the four drugs include the antiviral Remdesivir, antimalarial drug Chloroquine or Hydroxychloroquine, antiretroviral drugs used to treat HIV Lopinavir with Ritonavir, and Lopinavir with Ritonavir plus Interferon beta-1a.

“Nandiyan din po yung ating pagsapi sa mga tinatawag na WHO Solidarity trial. Ito ay bunsod sa kagustuhan ng ating presidente na makipagtulungan tayo sa lahat ng mga dalubhasa sa buong mundo upang magkaroon na tayo ng vaccine o gamot para sa Covid-19,” according to him.

The official added that the Department of Science and Technology is also studying the efficacy of herbal remedies such as lagundi and tawa-tawa as potential cures for the viral disease.
