Bakit iba ang na-flatten? Ping rues ABS-CBN flattened instead of virus

Instead of flattening the coronavirus, the government managed to flatten broadcasting giant ABS-CBN, Sen. Panfilo Lacson rued Thursday.

“We are all hoping we can flatten the curve of the corona virus soon. Instead, they flattened ABS-CBN yesterday,” he said on his Twitter account (https://twitter.com/iampinglacson/status/1258193880488402944).

He was referring to the shutdown of ABS-CBN’s broadcasting operations, due to an order from the National Telecommunications Commission.

The NTC order cited the absence of a valid congressional franchise as provided by law. ABS-CBN franchise expired last May 4.

ABS-CBN stopped airing on its 42 television and radio stations nationwide Tuesday night, hours after receiving the NTC order.

Lacson noted the first step for the granting of a new franchise lies with the House of Representatives, as decreed by the 1987 Constitution.

On the other hand, Lacson earlier scored the Department of Health leadership for not acting fast or decisively enough to curb the spread of COVID-19.

He particularly pointed out the need for contact tracing, a step that will guide authorities in conducting mass testing.
