President Rodrigo Duterte says he can’t blame Brigadier General Debold Sinas for not saying “no” to a surprise mañanita by his staff on his birthday in the middle of the enhanced community quarantine.
“I do not believe in just firing him because kinantahan siya ng ‘Happy Birthday,” said Duterte as he shot down calls for the firing of Sinas for flouting the lockdown ban on mass gatherings.
Apparently, Duterte thinks birthdays are special occasions that should be celebrated with other people as he recalled his 75th birthday which he spent by his lonesome in Bahay Pagbabago at Malacañang grounds “Maski ako, kita ka noong birthday ako, walang kumanta sa akin. Ako lang mag-isa. All by my…,” said Duterte in a briefing.
“Alam mo sa totoo lang, ako lang kumanta sarili ko. [Sings: ‘Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to me’.],” he added.
Duterte usually celebrates his birthday with his family, specifically his grandchildren, in Davao City.
“Iyon lang. Well kanya-kanyang ano eh. I’m sure na kung alam ni Sinas iyan, hindi siya pumayag. Pero kung nandiyan na rin, mañanita nga eh,” he said.
