Dumb and dumber: Duque, Dizon can’t even agree on virus testing, they have no credibility – Drilon

No wonder the public is fast losing its confidence on government’s COVID-19 response with the ineptitude of top guys overseeing the much needed tests are not on the same page.

Senate Minority Leader Drilon put to task Health Secretary Francisco Duque and virus testing czar Vince Dizon when they couldn’t even agree on how many tests the government should have to contain the pandemic during a Senate hearing May 20.

“Tinanong ko si Duque kung ilan ba ang nate-test ngayon. Ang sagot ay less than 10,000. Tinanong niya ang staff niya at lumabas ay 11,500.

These are basic na dapat at his fingertips alam niya. Pagkatapos tinanong ko kung ilan ba ang kailangang i-test ang sabi niya 30,000 pero ang sabi ni Dizon 50,000,” said Drilon in an interview with DZRH.

“Kung hindi magkakasundo sa basic data, it affects their credibility. Talagang maraming problema at nakakalungkot. Kailangan ang kooperasyon ng taumbayan sa social distancing pero kung ang nakikita mo ay mali-mali ang data, hindi nagkakasundo kung ano ang standard, talagang nawawalan ng tiwala ang taumbayan sa kakayahan ng pamahalaan na ma-contain yung virus na ito,” he added.

The government has chronically failed to meet its virus testing target in the last two months of the enhance community quarantine.

The Department of Health had targeted 8,000 polychain reaction (PCR) tests per day by April 30 but only came up with 4,900 or 61 percent achievement rate.

The Inter-Agency Task Force brought in Dizon, a protege of Speaker Alan Cayetano, on May 2 to jack up testing to 30,000 a day by May 30. But this early, presidential adviser on entrepreneurship Joey Concepcion doubts if the government can hit the target with only 8,000 to 11,000 tests per day. This means the government has a worst testing rate under Dizon than Duque.
