Imbes na mag-gadget at awayin si misis: Bato urges probinsyanos to start backyard gardening

Grow your own food.

As most people stay indoors during the coronavirus lockdown, Senator Ronald dela Rosa is urging the “probinsyanos” in Metro Manila to exercise their green thumb through urban farming.

Dela Rosa said starting a backyard garden is better option than just using the quarantine time on gadgets or engaging in fights with the spouses.

“Instead of spending our lockdown time watching tv, scrolling our smartphones, or worse engaging in petty quarrels with our wives why dont we go to our backyard and start gardening?” he wrote on Facebook.

“After the lockdown we the probinsyanos can flood metro manila with talong, kalabasa, sibuyas, kamatis and all sorts of vegetables,” he said.

Dela Rosa, who hails from Davao, made a formal proposal for the backyard farming during a recent virtual hearing of the Senate committee of the Whole. He said urban farming could help increase food
sufficiency in households as the country battles the coronavirus crisis.
