May tama rin siyang ginawa: Ping says public should look at Sinas’ good side too

Amid the savage “birthday bashing” he got for his moment of “indiscretion,” it cannot be denied Metro Manila police chief P/Maj. Gen. Debold Sinas has also done his share to help keep the metropolis safe from the COVID-19 threat.

This was stressed Friday by Sen. Panfilo Lacson, who as a former law enforcer headed the Philippine National Police from 1999 to 2001.

“P/MGen Debold Sinas has been bashed, criticized and pilloried both on social and mainstream media. He has since apologized and regretted his indiscretion. We may also want to consider his long law-enforcement service and his share to keep Metro Manila safe from the virus,” Lacson said on his Twitter account.

Earlier this week, Sinas became the target of criticisms after photos of a mañanita on his birthday last May 8 were posted on social media.

The photos indicated the participants did not practice social distancing – a requirement under the enhanced community quarantine over Metro Manila.

Lacson, in a text message to reporters Wednesday, had pointed out the incident “projects a bad example.”

Such photos also prompted criticisms from those who pointed out Sinas and his men were violating the ECQ they were tasked to enforce.

While Sinas has apologized for the incident, he faces charges for violating the ECQ. He is also being investigated by the PNP Internal Affairs Service.
