Duterte glad foreign loans still fund PH despite ‘convoluted’ economic woes

By Prince Golez

The Philippines could still pursue loans despite the economic impact of Covid-19 lockdowns in the country, President Rodrigo Duterte said.

On Thursday, Duterte said the government has obtained loans from foreign lenders amid the challenges posed by the pandemic.

“Mabuti naman ‘yung mga loans natin until now, the international financial world continues to support us,” the Chief Executive said during an event held in Palawan.

“Despite our convoluted economic problems now, mayroon pa rin silang tiwala. So maganda ‘yan,” according to him.

Prior to this, Duterte said that he had no idea of the economic picture of the country when he ran for president in the 2016 elections.

“I am a lawyer. Ang economics ko ‘yung economics sa college. Well, that was my working economics but I had really no idea… During the campaign, you might have noticed, sabi ko, ‘I will try to minimize crime. I will go after crime, criminality, drugs, tapos corruption’,” he added.
