Palace says ‘impossible’ to test entire PH population for coronavirus

By Prince Golez

Testing the entire population of the Philippines for the coronavirus is “physically impossible,” Malacañang said Tuesday.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque made this remark a day after he said that the government has no program to carry out mass testing to arrest the spread of the viral disease.

“No country in the world tests every citizen, that’s a fact. So what we are doing is we’re trying to follow the best examples that we have and right now we’re trying to follow the footsteps of South Korea,” Roque said in an interview with CNN Philippines.

The secretary said the government is targeting to test 1.5 to 2 percent of the total population.

“We can’t test 110 million persons, but in any case, no country in the world will test every single citizen that they have ‘no,” he reiterated.

A total of 224,673 tests have been conducted so far in 207,823 unique individuals, government health data showed.
