In his eulogy for Aquino, Almendras said Aquino had been suffering from various illnesses for over a year. However, he said the former President did not want the state of his health to be made public.

Last May, Almendras said Aquino had an angiogram in preparation for a kidney transplant. The former Cabinet Secretary recalled being nervous about the procedure because of his friend’s close brush with death last year.

Because over a year ago, sometime towards the end of September, there was a procedure po na not as critical as the angiogram.

Aquino died in his sleep at his Quezon City home on June 24 due to renal disease secondary to diabetes. He was 61. The former President was laid to rest on June 26.
