President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Wilkins Villanueva as the new director-general of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Malacañang confirmed Wednesday.
Villanueva, the former head of PDEA North Mindanao, replaced Aaron Aquino who will be assuming another government post.
In a statement, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said he believes that Villanueva will lead the anti-narcotics agency and the government’s war on drugs “to greater heights with professionalism, passion and integrity.”
The new PDEA chief, according to Roque, “is no stranger to drug law enforcement” and “has been working with PDEA for many years before reaching the agency’s top position.”
The Palace also thanked Aquino for his “immense contribution” to the anti-drugs campaign.
