Eh ba’t dumarami ang walang trabaho? Nograles: Job prospects remain bright amid COVID

By Prince Golez

Employment prospects remain positive even during the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic, Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said.

This ran contrary to the results of the Philippine Statistics Authority’s (PSA) labor force survey that showed the unemployment rate climbed to 17.7 percent in April or 7.3 million Filipino workers.

“Some businesses are resilient, remain extremely relevant and are in fact booming despite the prevailing global health crisis,” explained Nograles said during the first segment of the Pre-employment Preparation Webinar series conducted by the Far Eastern University Career and Placement Office.

The Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases co-chair enjoined everyone to “be persistent,” “creative” and “know what and where to look for employment-wise” during this challenging time.

“No one is immune from the fallout brought by Covid-19. Everyone in both the public and private sector is affected, and our government is doing its best to provide social and economic safety nets,” he pointed out.

In his online speech, Nograles said that several businesses belonging to the health and medical sectors as well as online retail and deliveries remain stable despite the ongoing Covid-19 crisis.

“May uncertainties lalo na sa ating mga kabataan, pero malaki at marami ring prospects. Expected na may ilang mababahala. Let’s remain optimistic and think there are many opportunities out there,” he also said.
