Gov’t throws full support to Cebu City as it reverts to strictest quarantine

By Prince Golez

The government has dispatched more medical personnel and resources to Cebu City to boost its capacity to combat the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic, after the city was reverted back to Enhanced Community Quarantine status.

National Action Plan against Covid-19 chief Implementer Carlito Galvez, Jr. in a statement said that staff members of the Department of Health Region VII office were increased, including nurses who were deployed to Cebu City’s leading hospitals.

According to him, 25 high-flow nasal cannula non-invasive ventilators, 42,000 Personal Protective Equipment, and 16,000 face masks were turned over to the city for use of its medical frontliners.

He also noted that under a new zoning containment strategy, 19 critical zones where there have been a spike in Covid-19 cases were identified.

Meanwhile, Galvez said the government continues to scale up its testing capacity to better respond to the pandemic in the coming months.

As of June 19, 553,197 tests have already been conducted, with a record 15,000 tests done in June 16 alone, he added.
