The Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) has asked Jollibee Foods Corporation (JFC) to clarify its stance on the controversial anti-terrorism bill after a militant leader posed with its mascot for a tweet.
VACC’s lawyer, Ferdinand Topacio, sent a letter to JFC on June 5 informing the fast food chain of the tweet posted by former Bayan Muna party-list Rep. Teddy Casino. The tweet, which was accompanied by a photo of Casino with Jollibee’s mascot, read: “Alam mo ang sabi ni best friend Jollibee sa akin? ‘Ituloy n’yo ang paglaban sa anti-terror bill na ‘yan.’ #JunkTerrorBill.”
Topacio said Casino’s tweet seemed to imply that Jollibee supports groups which oppose the proposed Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020.
“In this connection, we wish to ascertain whether it is truly the political stance of JFC to support the groups in opposition to the aforementioned Anti-Terrorism Bill,” he said.
“If so, then those who support the said bill, including our organization, will then exercise our Constitutional right to express our sentiments by boycotting and calling for a boycott of Jollibee and its subsidiary companies,” Topacio added.
JFC has yet to reply to VACC’s letter, which Topacio shared on his Twitter account.
