Lacson says anti-terror bill triggers surrender of more NPA rebels

By JOHN CARLO M. CAHINHINAN

Senator Panfilo Lacson said the passage of the controversial anti-terror bill has triggered the surrender of more communist insurgents.

Lacson said he received a report from a Philippine Army commander assigned somewhere in Southern Luzon that that communist rebels from the New People’s Army (NPA) “have started surrendering” in anticipation of the approval of the proposed Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020 which was already submitted by Congress to Malacañang last week.

“27 in just two days… many more are sending surrender feelers,” Lacson’s Twitter post read.

According to Lacson, the surenderees mainly came from NPA-infested areas in “Quezon, Laguna and Mindoro” provinces.

According to Lacson, communist legal fronts have been “become busier with their disinformation campaign” following the surrenders of their former comrades.

Lacson said those who still have doubts over the extent of the Anti-Terror Bill’s authority, should find time reading Section 45 of the Congress-approved legislation, particularly the last paragraph.

“Nowhere herein shall be interpreted to empower the ATC to exercise any judicial or quasi-judicial power or authority,” the provision read.
