The Department of Education (DepEd) is considering extending the enrollment period for public schools until July 15 as the registration of students remains low.
Education Secretary Leonor Briones announced the possible extension of enrollment Tuesday (June 30), the last day set by DepEd for the registration for students in public schools.
Based on DepEd’s data, only 15 million out of an estimated 27 million students have registered for school year 2020-2021.
Briones said parents may be having a hard time to decide whether or not to enroll their children amid concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic.
“‘Yung pag extend ng enrollment up to July 15, tignan namin ang movement kasi gusto nating magrespond naman sa parents. Hindi sila agad makapagdecide kung pag-aaralin ang anak o kung saan pag-aaralin,” she said.
